Family carries on tradition, honors victims of 9/11 at intersection of Academy and Galley in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — In honor of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, a family continued a beloved tradition in Colorado Springs at the intersection of Galley Road and North Academy Boulevard on Thursday.

Chriss Seal, who passed away in 2018, started the tradition in 2002, and every year on Sept. 11, he walked for 12 hours around the busy intersection, holding an American flag in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives lost.

This year, as in years past, his family carried on the tradition.

“Just that feeling, that I know made him so proud and happy to be out here and doing it that whole time, to feel like I am carrying that on and still living in his footsteps, to me, is the best part about being out here,” said Elizabeth Brouillette, who walked in remembrance of 9/11 and her brother, Chriss Seal, on Thursday.

According to his family, Seal was a proud American who wanted to show respect to the first responders and victims of 9/11 and is grateful to continue the annual tradition.
