(COLORADO SPRINGS) — El Pomar’s Penrose Heritage Museum is hosting its Family Exploration Day on Saturday, June 1.
The community is invited to join the museum for a day of fun and interactive activities. Some opportunities include taking photos, going on a scavenger hunt, and more. Participants can gather all the stamps for the activities and return their passports to be entered in a drawing for a chance to win admission/tickets to a collection of Colorado Springs attractions.
There will also be unique and personal Penrose family objects and artifacts on display at the museum, including Spencer Penrose’s 106-year-old Broadmoor Special race car, nicknamed “Yellow Devil.” The items tell the story of Spencer and July Penrose’s lives as well as the regional history.
The event is free and open to the public, it starts at 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. with the “Yellow Devil” having its engine fired at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The event will be hosted at the museum, located at 11 Lake Circle.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a philanthropy activity allowing them to act as philanthropists for the day by voting for one of four local organizations to receive a portion of a special $10,000 El Pomar Foundation grant.
Each vote for either the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, or Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will increase the corresponding organization’s share of the total $10,000.
