FBI, CSPD investigate lead on potential human remains in Teller County

(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have been investigating credible leads related to the homicide of a woman in Colorado Springs in 2019, prompting a renewed search for human remains in Teller County.

On Tuesday, Aug. 19, the FBI confirmed its presence in the area of Chapparral Trail and Chateau West Drive in Teller County at the request of CSPD.

According to CSPD, the department has been investigating potential human remains in Teller County for the past couple of days as a follow-up on credible leads related to the Jepsy Kallungi Homicide investigation.

Jepsy Kallungi was reported missing from her home in Colorado Springs in April 2019, and her husband, Dane Kallugi, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was found guilty in 2023.

CSPD stated that at this time, no remains have been found, but the investigation is ongoing.
