Fire Station 24 opens in Colorado Springs

(COLROADO SPRINGS)— Fire Station 24 has officially opened on the north side of Colorado Springs, aiming to reduce emergency response times in the rapidly growing area.

The new station, located near New Life Drive and Interquest Parkway, is expected to alleviate the workload of existing stations by providing faster service to the Victory Ridge area, which has seen a significant increase in businesses and housing developments.

“Our city is growing. Public safety continues to remain the most important priority for our residents,” said Mayor Yemi Mobolade during the grand opening.

Chief Randy Royal of the Colorado Springs Fire Department noted, “We expect that they’re going to run a thousand calls this year, and they’ve already been running out of the station for the last two weeks, but they’ve already had a couple of very critical calls.”

The opening of Fire Station 24 comes as a response to the booming development in the Victory Ridge area, which has placed additional demands on existing fire stations 19 and 22. The new station is intended to cut down on response times, where every minute can be crucial in emergencies.

Chief Randy Royal reported that the new station has already reduced response times by about a minute, and neighboring stations have seen a decrease of two to two and a half minutes in their response times within their areas.

Despite facing a budget shortfall, the city prioritized the construction of Fire Station 24 by reallocating funds to ensure the project was completed. Mayor Mobolade emphasized the importance of public safety, stating, “We will continue to prioritize our public safety needs, and Station 24 is such an important need for our community.”

The city had prepared for the opening by hiring necessary staff last year, anticipating the station’s completion. Chief Royal mentioned that firefighters for the new station were hired about a year ago, though construction delays postponed the opening.

With Fire Station 24 now operational, Colorado Springs is better equipped to handle emergencies in its growing north side, enhancing public safety and improving quality of life for its residents.
