Followers puzzled by CSP’s tri-lingual alert on X

(COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) has been in constant communication with drivers about road conditions, but one set of three posts on X (formerly Twitter), written in three separate languages, left people scratching their heads and wondering if the CSP’s social media had been hacked.

Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, CSP posted alerts to commercial drivers that I-70 was restricted to them from the Eagle/Vail area to the Morrison exit, and would not be passable for commercial motor vehicles until noon on Friday.

What set these posts apart from other updates that the CSP had been regularly putting out throughout the day was that it was posted three times; once in English, once in Spanish, and once in Russian. CSP later posted an explanation for the tri-lingual posts in response to a high number of questions they received from followers.

The response post stated that to get their alert out to drivers in a more timely manner, they provided the warning in the three languages that troopers had noticed were the most commonly spoken amongst the drivers they had encountered during the storm. They further explained in a media release that they were not able to include all three translations in one post due to the character limit on X, so they split them into three separate posts.
