Former Deputy District Attorney sentenced after pleading guilty to Child Sex Assault

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — David McConkie, a former Deputy District Attorney, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault on a child.

McConkie was arrested in 2023 for two charges of sexual assault on a child. On Tuesday, July 1, McConkie was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to one count of criminal attempt to commit Sexual Assault on a Child in exchange for prosecutors dismissing the remaining charges against him. Initially, he had pleaded not guilty in 2024.

He was convicted of sexually assaulting a child for nine years from 2004 to 2013, when the victim was an infant. McConkie was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.

Previously, he had served as Deputy District Attorney for Colorado’s 4th Judicial District for El Paso and Teller Counties from 2008 to 2011 and was also a prominent Mormon church leader.

Following his tenure at the DA’s Office, he transitioned into private practice and became a partner at a local law firm. He held the position of president of the Colorado Springs East Stake within The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2016 to 2023.

McConkie is due in court for a review hearing on Aug. 29.
