Fort Carson hosts Connect-with-a-Vet hiring event

(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — On Thursday, Feb. 20, Fort Carson hosted its largest hiring event of the year for service members, veterans, and military spouses.

The Fort Carson Connect-with-a-Vet hiring event hosted over 80 local and national employers, while also providing transition resources. Those resources included resume support and professional head shots for newly transitioning military personnel as they take their next steps in their career.

“We’re excited to support our community members as they take their next steps in their career,” said Sherry Jenkins, 28-year Air Force veteran and Fort Carson transition services manager.

Law enforcement agencies said military members make good hires because of the experiences and values that service imparts upon them.

“We like [hiring] military folks because they have a really good sense of discipline, they’re really team-oriented, they love, just, adventurous stuff,” said Derek Cottle, Alaska State Trooper. “We want people that want to go out into the wilds of Alaska, that want to just be part of the team, and we’ve had really good success doing these events. We’ve had a lot of successful applicants, people that are really driven, disciplined, and motivated.”
