(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said four people killed in a crash on South Powers Boulevard and Fountain Boulevard on July 13 have been identified, and all were below the age of 21.
According to CSPD, on Sunday, July 13, at around 4:25 a.m., officers were notified of a two-car crash at the intersection of South Powers and Fountain Boulevards. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and determined that two of the people on the scene were dead. Two other people had life-threatening injuries, and one person with serious injuries was taken to the hospital.
CSPD said its investigation determined that a Nissan Rogue carrying four people was heading south on Powers approaching Fountain, and was allegedly speeding. A second vehicle, a Lexus SUV, was traveling north on Powers when it entered the intersection, making a left-hand turn. The Nissan entered the intersection and hit the SUV. After the collision, the Nissan slid and rolled, coming to a stop on the southwest corner of the road.
On July 14, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the two dead from the crash as a 17-year-old girl and 18-year-old Bryan Jaramillo.
On July 15, the driver of the Nissan, identified as 19-year-old Gabriel Zelayia, died from their injuries.
On July 16, CSPD was notified that the fourth person in the Nissan, identified as 20-year-old Janet Pino-Lopez, had passed away due to their injuries.
CSPD said the four deaths were the 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th fatalities in Colorado Springs in 2025. At the same time in 2024, there had been 31 traffic fatalities.
“Between July 5, 2025, and July 13, 2025, the Colorado Springs area experienced six traffic-related fatalities. All six of these people were between the ages of 17 and 20. All six people were tragically lost in two separate crashes. Both involved high speeds, alcohol, and the victims were not wearing seatbelts,” said CSPD. “CSPD would like to remind and encourage parents to have important conversations with their teenage drivers about safety behind the wheel. We also continue to ask all drivers in our community to please slow down, wear your seatbelt, and refrain from drinking and driving. These simple practices save lives.”
