(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Senator John Hickenlooper was in Southern Colorado Friday afternoon, Aug. 2, to celebrate $800,000 of federal money coming to Care and Share Food Bank.
The money will be used to help Care and Share renovate its distribution center in Pueblo. Senator Hickenlooper toured one of the non-profit’s warehouses and met with Care and Share leaders to discuss how Congress can continue to support food security in Southern Colorado.
The $800,000 Congressionally Directed Spending Award is part of the more than $111 million Hickenlooper helped secure for 114 projects across the state.
“As beautiful as you see it here, their office in Pueblo is going to get a top-to-bottom renovation and expansion,” said Hickenlooper.
President and CEO of Care and Share, Nate Springer, stressed why the Pueblo facility is so important for local communities, and how this award couldn’t come at a better time.
“Our distribution center in Pueblo is so important for Pueblo, Pueblo County, and the surrounding counties,” said Springer. “We put about six million pounds of food just into Pueblo County this year. So that facility, of the three that we have–the one here in Colorado Springs, the one in Pueblo, and the one in Alamosa–is the oldest.”
