Homeless camp fire knocked down, Academy reopens

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Lanes of southbound Academy Boulevard have reopened south of Pikes Peak Avenue after a homeless camp fire spread to surrounding vegetation.

CSFD posted an update just before 6 p.m. on Monday and said the fire began in the homeless camp and spread to surrounding trees and brush. CSFD said the fire was contained to the immediate area. All lanes of South Academy Boulevard have reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY: S. Academy down to 2 lanes as CSFD fights grass fire

South Academy Boulevard is down to two lanes southbound at Pikes Peak Avenue due to a grass fire.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) posted about the fire just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, and said firefighters were on scene working to get the fire under control.

CSFD said southbound Academy is down to two lanes south of Pikes Peak. CSFD asked drivers to avoid the area.
