(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) reported the third officer injured in a shooting in March is set to be released from the hospital on Saturday, April 12.
On March 18, officers were dispatched near the intersection of West Mesa Avenue and Cedar Street after an officer had been shot. Officers with PPD and deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) responded, and once at the scene, additional gunfire was exchanged.
During the incident, two more officers were injured, and the suspect was killed. According to Pueblo Chief of Police Chris Noeller, two of the officers suffered wounds to the head. All officers were reported as stable after the shooting on March 18.
Two of the injured officers were already released from the hospital, while the third officer will be released on Saturday. The City of Pueblo and Pueblo Police will host an honor escort/welcome home procession beginning at 11:30 a.m. near the Pueblo Police Department at 200 South Main Street.
Community members can park along Alan Hamel Avenue and in the Central Main Street Parking Garage. If arrival is prior to 11 a.m., parking will also be permitted in the Main Street Parking Garage across from the Municipal Justice Center/Pueblo Police Department located at 200 S. Main Street.
Individuals will not be permitted to park along the roadway on Main Street, and starting at 11 a.m., Main Street will be closed from Alan Hamel Avenue to Abriendo Avenue to allow the procession to travel down South Main Street. Cross streets will also be closed during that time.
Public viewing will be available along the procession route on the east side of Main Street and will be managed by Pueblo Police.
