HSPPR offering free pet behavior assistance

(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said that when relationships with a new pet hit a rough patch, there is support available.

HSPPR said that relationships with a new pet are a lot like dating. For the first few weeks, everything is great, you carry them around like royalty, every nap is adorable, every zoomie magical, then week three happens.

HSPPR said week three is when you start to notice little things, like your dog barking at strollers like they’re alien spacecraft, your cat slapping you in the face at 2 a.m. for reasons unknown, potty training becomes your second full-time job, and your couch is now a shredded monument to your suffering.

If you find yourself wondering, “Is it worth it?” HSPPR said the answer is yes, your pet is worth fighting for, and you are not failing; you are just in a rough part. Every relationship has a rough part, so HSPPR offers free behavior consultations for cats and dogs.

The consultations are provided through HSPPR’s Behavior Helpline: 25-minute phone calls with real-life animal behavior specialists. According to HSPPR, the consultations are for dog people, cat people, frustrated people, tired people, and people googling: “Why is my puppy afraid of hardwood floors?”- all people.

Those requesting assistance do not need to have been adopted through HSPPR; the only requirement is having a pet and needing help.

Information on how to contact the HSPPR Behavior Helpline can be found on their website.
