Huerfano County discovers ballot error

(HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Huerfano County Government announced on Monday, Oct. 28 it discovered an error in some ballots that resulted in a scanning issue.

Huerfano County said via Facebook the error came from the vendor, Fort Orange Press. They further explained some of the ballots received in the mail had damaged timing marks, causing a scanning issue.

According to the County, the issue was detected recently and there is a process in place to ensure every ballot is scanned and every vote is counted, reiterating every ballot returned is being processed.

“This did not impact all ballots nor does it impact the intent of the voter!” wrote Huerfano County on Facebook. “Rest assured that we have a process in place for those that have a scanner issue.”

The County said the vendor met with staff and Huerfano County Clerk and Recorder Erica Vigil to apologize. The County said Fort Orange Press assured the ballot issue was not an IT or mechanical issue, or an issue from Huerfano County’s end, but from the printer vendor.

“This is not just a Huerfano County issue,” said the county, explaining the vendor issue also affected other counties.

Huerfano County said Fort Orange Press will release more information explaining the situation. FOX21 News will update this article as more information becomes available.
