(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — Pueblo County leaders held a seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 14 to highlight the importance of CPR and how its employees used that knowledge to save a life.
A couple of months ago, Tabatha Mestas and Danielle Anderson, who both work for Pueblo County, were watching a displaced teenage girl at an apartment, and during one of their overnight shifts, the teen overdosed on drugs.
Both women jumped into action as Anderson gave Narcan to the teen and called 911, while Mestas gave chest compressions to keep the girl alive until paramedics arrived.
Both women said it was instinct that helped them jump into action. “When you’re faced with a situation like that, there’s not a lot of time to think and so you just… you know there’s somebody that needs your help, so you just move and you keep doing the next right thing,” said Mestas.
Both women said it’s important for anyone who works with children or adults to have this kind of training.
