DENVER (KDVR) — Changes are on the way for the iconic Johnson’s Corner Restaurant and Bakery in northern Colorado.
A sign on the door says the restaurant is closed and a new establishment, the “Black Bear Diner” is set to take over. The eatery’s giant red-letter sign has been a landmark along Interstate 25, and the restaurant was a staple for those who took Exit 254.
“I just heard about it from other people in town, in Johnstown, talking about it,” said Andria, a customer who had stopped by to purchase beef jerky.
The mini-mart and gas station, according to a cashier, will not be affected. Johnson’s Corner’s famous cinnamon rolls will still be found inside the mini-mart.
Attempts Monday to reach the owners by phone were not immediately successful. Johnson’s Corner has been in Johnstown for more than half a century.
No timetable has been given as to when the new restaurant will open, but the closed doors come less than a year since Texas-based Buc-ee’s opened its massive travel center about three miles down I-25 from the restaurant.
