(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — A student at Tiger Trades Academy in La Junta has been charged after bringing a gun to school on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
According to the La Junta Police Department (LJPD), officers responded to Tier Trades Academy Tuesday morning after an anonymous tip was received reporting a student had possibly brought a gun to school.
Upon the student’s arrival, LJPD said school staff immediately intervened, separating him from the rest of the student body. A responding police officer made contact with the student, who admitted to having a weapon. The officer safely secured the gun and took the student into custody.
“At no time were students or staff in danger,” LJPD said. “The La Junta Police Department and Tiger Trades Academy remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff.”
The student was taken to the Pueblo Youth Center, where he is being held on multiple charges:
Unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon
Possession of a handgun by prohibited juvenile
Unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds
