Live updates: Nearly 90 displaced after explosion at assisted living center: Denver fire

DENVER (KDVR) — Nearly 90 people are being displaced after an apparent explosion at an assisted living center Wednesday in southeast Denver, the Denver Fire Department reported.

The fire department initially said Wednesday morning on X they were responding to a structure fire near East Harvard Avenue and South Quebec Street, where Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Campus is located. They then said crews confirmed a transformer was on fire, but the fire was not extending to any buildings.

The department in an X post later said an explosion was reported inside of a building and later said the building involved was a nursing home and assisted living center. Eight people were transported to hospitals and two others were evaluated at Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Campus after the explosion.

The fire department could not give any details about the injuries.
