Man allegedly lied to deputies about being a hired mover

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) said a 52-year-old man claimed he was hired to move items from a Pueblo West home; however, the homeowner said they didn’t hire anyone.

According to PCSO, on Sunday, June 8, deputies responded to a home in the 1000 block of Blackstone Drive near East Platteville Boulevard after the homeowner contacted the Sheriff’s Office, reporting that an unknown man was seen on a security camera loading items into a car.

The homeowner wasn’t at home at the time and arrived to find the man, later identified as Phillip J. Martinez, allegedly putting items into a car. The homeowner confronted Martinez and told him the Sheriff’s Office had been called. Martinez then left the area.

Deputies arrived and identified the home connected to the vehicle Martinez had left behind, which was nearby. Deputies contacted Martinez at the home, and he told them he was hired by the homeowner to help him move.

The homeowner said he had not hired any movers and did not know Martinez.

Martinez was booked into the Pueblo County Jail and is facing charges of second-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and a restraining order violation.
