Man found unresponsive dies at John Martin Reservoir

(BENT COUNTY, Colo.) — A visitor found an unresponsive 33-year-old man in the showers at John Martin Reservoir State Park in Bent County on the night of Saturday, July 26, according to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Southeast Region. Despite attempts to save his life, he died at the scene.

According to CPW, around 9 p.m. on Saturday, the person who found the man in the shower called 911 and started CPR. A CPW officer quickly arrived and gave the unresponsive man Narcan. A Bent County deputy, Lamar firefighters, and EMTs arrived and continued medical intervention. However, the Bent County Coroner was requested and pronounced the visitor dead at 10:30 p.m.

The incident and the circumstances surrounding it are under investigation.

“CPW offers our condolences to the family and friends of the visitor, and to everyone involved in this tragic incident,” said Dan Kirmer, Park Manager.
