(FREMONT COUNTY, Colo.) — A man who escaped the Fremont County Jail in June 2024 has been sentenced to six years in the Department of Corrections (DOC).
According to court documents, 46-year-old Kegan VanVliet accepted a plea agreement in connection to the June 7, 2024 escape from the Fremont County Jail.
Kegan VanVliet was located later that same day in Colorado Springs, and was taken into custody after being tracked using infrared technology and a K9 team. Before being found in Colorado Springs, VanVliet was last seen along U.S. Highway 50 at Justice Center Road in Cañon City.

A second arrest was made by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office weeks after the escape–Kegan’s brother Kyle VanVliet–on charges of aiding in the escape.
On Thursday, March 27, Kegan agreed to plead guilty to escape charges, and was sentenced to six years in the DOC. His brother Kyle has entered a plea of not guilty.
