(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The man who crashed into a downtown Colorado Springs business after a domestic violence incident has pleaded guilty to Kidnapping.
On Sunday, Feb. 11 at around 1:30 a.m., 24-year-old Fidencio Meza-Pelayo engaged in a dispute with his girlfriend who left the scene on South Prospect Street east of downtown. Believing that she had gone to a neighboring house, Meza-Pelayo attempted to break into the home and was shot when he entered by the homeowner, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
Meza-Pelayo then drove from the area at a high speed and crashed into multiple downtown businesses, one of which was the Skirted Heifer located at 204 North Tejon St. Meza-Pelayo was reported to have crashed into a parked car and popped his tire on the corner of the block across the street, which sent a block of concrete through the AT&T store.
On Friday, Dec. 20, Meza-Pelayo pleaded guilty to Kidnapping, a class four felony, and as a result, the other charges Meza-Pelayo was facing were dropped. Meza-Pelayo was charged legal fees and sentenced to four years of probation.
Skirted Heifer was able to reopen near the end of April after a two and a half month closure.
