Man who died near Downtown house fire identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The man who died at the scene of a Downtown house fire and possible explosion has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner.

According to the coroner, 61-year-old Aaron Roper died on Monday, Jan. 27 in the area of a house fire on East Boulder Street. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the fire was initially reported to dispatchers as an explosion.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to the fire, and as fire crews were arriving, a resident collapsed. Crews provided medical attention to the person, now identified as Roper, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

CSFD has not released a cause or origin of the fire yet, though it is investigating. CSPD is investigating Roper’s death.
