(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Mayor Yemi Mobolade announced that Tuesday, March 26 will be declared as Gerald “Jay” Cimino Day in Colorado Springs and there will be a public ceremony at 10 a.m. during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
Born in Trinidad in 1936, Cimino was the former President and CEO of Phil Long Dealerships and was well known for his philanthropic endeavors. Cimino passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, Feb. 25.
The reading of the proclamation will be held on the third floor of City Hall, located at 107 North Nevada Avenue, and the public is invited to attend. The meeting can also be watched online through Facebook, the City’s website, on SPRINGS TV Comcast Channels 18 and 880 (HD) or Stratus IQ Channels 76 and 99 (Streaming).
“Thank you to the City of Colorado Springs for honoring Jay’s life work of helping others,” said Phil Long Dealerships’ President and CEO Kevin Shaughnessy. “Jay’s contributions have touched many communities throughout the state and beyond. We are committed to continuing his legacy of philanthropy and investing in our community’s growth and vibrancy.”
Phil Long Dealerships will also be launching a give-back campaign in April. According to Phil Long Dealerships, for every new or pre-owned car bought in April, a donation will be made to one of five community-focused organizations selected by the customer.
