(COLORADO SPRINGS) — FOX21 News has learned that a missing at-risk man who was found safely on Monday, July 14, was the same man who was arrested after a grass fire was put out on the same day. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) confirmed to FOX21 on Tuesday, July 15, that Brandon Hugney was arrested on Monday for his alleged connection to a string of fires over the last seven months, and is facing several charges of arson.

According to CSPD, 21-year-old Hugney ran away from home on Saturday, July 13, and due to extenuating health concerns, he was listed as “at risk.” While he was missing, a grass fire was set in the 1500 block of Space Center Drive, near North Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard, that endangered people nearby.

An investigation by responding officers revealed that Hugney was the suspect not only for the grass fire, but according to police, the arson team also connected him to several other fires over the past few months, including a fire at a former Joe’s Crab Shack near the Citadel Mall on April 21.
