DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado gained around 232,663 people from state-to-state migration in 2023, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
It also lost around 211,370 residents to other states, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
This means that the Centennial State ultimately gained around 21,293 people.
Top states people moved from to Colorado
Around 25% of all people who moved to Colorado from another state came from Texas or California in 2023.
However, unlike in previous years, more people moved to Colorado from Texas than California.
The top five states people moved to Colorado from:
Texas – 32,150 people
California – 26,148 people
Florida – 12,786 people
Arizona – 12,378 people
North Carolina – 10,351 people
According to the data, around 35,910 people also moved to Colorado from another country or a U.S. territory, like Puerto Rico or Guam.
Top states people moved to from Colorado
Texas, California and Florida were the top three states that people moved out of Colorado to live in, according to the data.
Approximately 25% of people who left Colorado in 2023 went to one of these three states, with 12% moving to Texas, 7% to California and 6% to Florida.

Texas – 25,369 people
California – 14,784 people
Florida – 13,264 people
Arizona – 8,344 people
Nevada – 8,064 people
Colorado only gained around 1,896 people from Nevada while around 8,064 people moved to Nevada from Colorado, which is a net loss of an estimated 6,168 people.
