MSPD gets dangerous drugs off the street

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — According to the Manitou Springs Police Department (MSPD), since Aug. 1, police have taken a significant amount of drugs off the streets of the community.

MSPD said that through a series of traffic stops and investigations into suspicious vehicles, officers have uncovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. Substances, MSPD said, pose serious risks to community health and safety.

Since Aug. 1, officers have seized more than 125 grams of methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of fentanyl and heroin combined, two grams of cocaine, and multiple fentanyl pills. The efforts have resulted in felony arrests along with misdemeanor charges.

MSPD highlighted a recent case in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 9, when a driver attempted to elude officers during a traffic stop. The vehicle ultimately entered a dead-end street, and the driver ran from officers on foot. The suspect was not immediately apprehended, but officers recovered about 100 grams of methamphetamine and six fentanyl pills from the vehicle.

MSPD said the suspect has been identified, and an arrest warrant is underway.

“While Manitou Springs remains a safe community, these incidents illustrate the hidden dangers that exist and the importance of continued vigilance,” wrote MSPD. “MSPD’s proactive approach reflects a strong commitment to protecting residents and visitors, ensuring that those who come to Manitou Springs can live, work, and enjoy the community with confidence.”
