(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Area Fire Protection District reported that firefighters were called to the area of the Four Mile Creek Bridge and US Highway 50 for multiple fires burning in the creek bottom on Tuesday, July 15.
According to the Fire Protection District, at around 9:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the area. Fires involved trees, brush, and slash piles. Firefighters were able to contain the fires in the area of their origins with less than one acre total burned.
The cause of the fires is under investigation, but it appears intentional, and the Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) has taken a suspect into custody, according to the District. No injuries were reported.
