(COLORADO SPRINGS) —The Indigo Ranch neighborhood in Colorado Springs is gearing up for its fourth annual Halloween decorating competition, inviting residents from Southern Colorado to vote for their favorite spooky house.
The event, organized by the Indigo Ranch Fun Club, transforms the neighborhood into a Halloween spectacle with categories like ‘frightfully fun,’ ‘neighborhood nightmare,’ and ‘DIY die hard.’ Residents and visitors can enjoy the decorations and participate in the voting process.
“This is the fourth year that we’ve hosted this contest in our neighborhood,” said Crysta Kehren Allison Caley, host of the Indigo Ranch Fun Club.
Indigo Ranch turns into a spooky sight at night, with neighbors spending weeks preparing their homes for the competition. A highlight is a massive haunted house, allowing visitors to walk through the yard and exit through the garage.
The event is not just about the decorations; it also fosters community spirit. On Halloween night, hundreds of kids are expected to visit, and homeowners sitting in their driveways around fire pits, offering drinks to warm up from the fall weather.
A unique feature of the event is the ‘boo bar,’ where hot chocolate, marshmallows, and cider are handed out. Sponsors contribute gifts and prizes for the ‘boo bar’ bags and for the contest winners.
Winners of the competition receive a trophy featuring black sugar skulls filled with fun items from sponsors, along with the year and category of their win.
Indigo Ranch’s Halloween competition not only brings out the creativity of its residents but also keeps the spirit of Halloween alive for the community. “You always hear about the kids, like there’s nobody out, nobody’s giving candy, nobody gives out good candy?… Why not try to keep one of those traditions alive and let the kids have fun,” said Allison Caley, emphasizing the importance of maintaining festive traditions.
The organizers encourage everyone to drive slowly through the neighborhood and avoid parking in front of driveways, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
