A man fell while climbing in the area.

Several agencies responded, including:

Douglas County Search and Rescue

Larkspur Fire Protection District

Jackson 105 Fire Protection District

For those who aren’t familiar with rescue terminology — a complex, multi-step rescue was required to first reach the fallen climber, with rescue teams having to ascend to the area where he was located and then slowly levering him down a steep, rocky surface.

The rescue team described the rescue happening in this order:

A two-pitch, high-angle rescue to get to him and then get him down

A complex exposed carry

Shorter pitch, high-angle lowering

Numerous low-angle pitches to get through the terrain

After the rescue was completed, the man was taken to a helicopter in Rampart by an ambulance. He is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the fall.

All crews were successfully and safely able to get out of the area themselves.
