New City Council members sworn in Tuesday

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Newly elected members of Colorado Springs City Council were sworn into office during a ceremony at the Pioneers Museum on Tuesday, April 15.

Presiding municipal court judge Hayden Kane swore in new councilmembers elected by voters in the April 1 City Municipal Election.

Those taking the oath on Tuesday included four new faces, along with two returning members. Among the newcomers are Tom Bailey, District 2; Brandy Williams, District 3; Kimberly Gold, District 4; and Roland Rainey Jr., District 6.

At the swearing-in, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade spoke on the important work City Councilmembers do to bring the voice of the people to the table during the community’s most important conversations.

“The work is real. The work is complex. The work is sometimes messy, and can feel lonely at times,” Mayor Mobolade said of what lies ahead for new councilmembers. “And yes, some meetings might stretch into the evening hours with passionate comments, and more acronyms than any human should reasonably memorize. But I assure you, it is meaningful, it is worth it, and you are exactly where God wants you to be.”

After being sworn in, City Council held a special meeting in council chambers at City Hall to elect a new Council President, Lynette Crow-Iverson, and President Pro Tem, Brian Risley, to serve for the next two years.
