(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Thanks to a partnership between UCHealth and American Medical Response (AMR), ambulances in Pueblo will now carry whole blood on select units.
The new initiative, which will enhance trauma care in the field, follows similar rollouts in Colorado Springs, Loveland, and Teller County.
“Whole blood transfusions in the field have been shown to significantly improve survival in trauma cases,” according to UCHealth. “This program represents a major advancement in emergency medical care for the region.”
On Wednesday, Aug. 20, several officials, including those from UCHealth, AMR, and a local trauma surgeon, came together to discuss the new initiative and what it means for the community.
FOX21 News was at the event on Wednesday and will update this article as we learn more.
