New U.S. citizens welcomed at ceremony in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A few dozen people officially became American citizens in Colorado Springs on Friday, July 25, with some special help from the Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD).

Library 21c hosted 34 immigrants for a Naturalization ceremony Friday afternoon. Leaders said it was the culmination of a rewarding process, both for the people going through it and the staff and volunteers who provide resources throughout the journey. Those resources include weekly classes, book offerings, and more.

One of the people at the library who took the Oath of Allegiance said it was a long journey, but it doesn’t take away from her sense of accomplishment.

“It was worth the wait. I am very proud of myself for sticking it out and going through the process, as long and hard as it can be,” said Sitaaish Jessen, who immigrated from Pakistan. “I think that’s how good things come, most of the time anyway. So it was worth the wait. Worth the process. I’m very excited to say that I am a citizen now.”

PPLD hosts Naturalization ceremonies in partnership with U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
