(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a suspected street racer after he crashed his vehicle onto an embankment.
At around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, a CSPD officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a suspected street that was traveling northbound on South Powers Boulevard, south of Airport Road. When the officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle turned off all of its lights and took off at a high rate of speed northbound on South Powers Boulevard.
The officer did not pursue the car, instead, it turned off the police car lights and sirens. A few minutes later, the officer continued northbound on Powers Boulevard and got off on the ramp to East Platte Avenue. He was then flagged by an uninvolved motorist that a car had crashed off of the ramp.
The officer located the vehicle east of the ramp down on an embankment. The driver was injured, taken to the hospital and arrested.
