(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Good news warm weather fans, our recent cold snap is about to break free. Temperatures this last week were far from normal for this time of year, as an arctic blast gripped most of the United States.
According to the Climate Prediction Center, almost the entire country will transition to temperatures that are above average for the end of the month. That doesn’t necessarily mean that a “heat wave” is on the way, but in general most of us here in Southern Colorado will see temperatures above the normal mark of 45 degrees for late January.
U.S Temperature and Moisture outlook for the end of January
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is a government agency. The CPC regularly releases extended outlooks for moisture and temperature – advising on whether we will be above or below average depending on the time of year.
U.S Temperature and Moisture outlook for February
For the month of February, early indications point to near average moisture chances across Southern Colorado. Just off to our west, in portions of California and Nevada, the CPC is highlighting a chance for above average moisture. As far as temperatures go, it looks like a warmer pattern will be favoring the north half of the United States.
U.S Temperature and Moisture outlook for February, March, April
The CPC also examines the next three months which would take us into February, March and April. For right now, it looks like above average precipitation and near average temperatures will be possible. This is pretty good news for people who enjoy storm systems, whether they bring rain or snow!
These predictions get updated constantly as the atmosphere evolves, so these graphics are likely to change in the coming days, weeks and months.
