PCSO warns the community of a Bitcoin scam

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) is warning the community of a scam call asking the victim to make a payment at a Bitcoin ATM.

PCSO said people are getting phone calls from a suspect impersonating the victim’s bank and asking for payment at a Bitcoin ATM. In some cases, the suspect is telling the victim that someone was looking a child pornography on their computer and they need to pay thousands of dollars at the Bitcoin ATM to avoid getting into trouble.

According to PCSO, no legitimate bank or company will call you and ask you to submit money at a Bitcoin ATM. To avoid becoming a victim, never give personal or financial information over the phone. If you are asked to deposit money, or you are concerned about the validity of a call, hang up and call the agency to verify the legitimacy of the call.

If you have given any personal or financial information to a suspected scammer, PCSO recommends contacting your financial institution and reporting it immediately.
