Person wins $2M after buying 2 Mega Millions lottery tickets

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Lottery is waiting for someone to claim $2 million after one lucky person walked away from a 7-11 with two winning lottery tickets on Tuesday night, both worth a million dollars.

The Colorado Lottery said someone took home $2 million after they purchased two Mega Millions tickets from a 7-11 at 6150 E U.S. Highway 34 in Johnstown. A spokesperson with the lottery said the winner purchased the same numbers on both tickets, leaving them with double the amount.

If the player had bought 10 tickets, they’d be up $10 million right now.

Colorado Lottery reports record sales year of over $900M

This is one of the biggest wins in the state. The lottery said Colorado has only seen three $4 million, two $2 million and five $1 million winners before Tuesday’s win.

While the winner is close to being a multi-millionaire, the lottery said the winner hasn’t claimed their prize yet. If the winner doesn’t claim their prize within 180 days after a drawing, the money goes straight into the beneficiary fund, where it is distributed to Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust fund and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

This win comes after Mega Millions changed its price in April. The lottery said that starting in April, the price increased to $5, resulting in over $100 million in non-jackpot prizes compared to what would have been $25 million under the old $2 price tag.
