(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak Avenue will close west of South Academy Boulevard starting Thursday, April 18 for a week to allow for construction and paving, in addition to a 10 day closure of Airport Road that began Monday, April 15.

According to the City of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Avenue will close in both directions west of Academy starting Thursday evening and lasting until Friday, April 26. The City said the closure will allow crews to perform intersection improvements and pave the new roadway across the intersection.

A detour will be in place via Chelton Road to continue west on Pikes Peak Avenue or head north or south parallel to Academy. The City said local business access will remain open.

In addition, a full closure of Airport Road east of South Academy began April 15 and will last until Thursday, April 25. This closure is to allow crews to replace a water line across the intersection.

Eastbound Airport Road traffic will detour south on South Academy Boulevard to Fountain Boulevard, go east to Murray Boulevard, and turn north to access Airport Road on the east. Westbound Airport Road traffic will detour north on Murray Boulevard to Pikes Peak Avenue, go west to South Academy Boulevard and turn south to access Airport Road on the west.
