(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD) said after two years of declining construction, 2024 saw a rebound and a few notable projects were completed during the year.
According to PPRBD, the department issued 2,854 permits for new single-family homes, a 7% increase from 2023. A variety of homes were being built including detached homes, townhomes, and duplexes–permits were even issued for 42 new condos, a first since 2021.
PPRBD said that despite not having a significant hailstorm in 2024, 16,000 reroof permits were issued, many of which were used to repair damage from 2023 hailstorms.
Commercial construction did decrease in 2024, particularly with apartments, as PPRBD issued only 838 new apartment units, a decrease of 63% compared to 2023 and the second year of decline in apartment construction, the fewest since 2015.
While permits for new parking declined, the completion of older projects increased with 3,795 new units completed in 2024. A similar number is expected in 2025 with 6,000 units under construction.
Other notable projects finished in 2024 are the Ford Amphitheater, USAFA Visitor Center and Hotel Polaris, Epicenter Apartments, Fiona Apartments, and the Woody and Millie Ingram Guest House.
Projects started in 2024 include Abrams Elementary in School District 8, the King Soopers in Flying Horse, and Fountain and CSFD Fire Station #24. PPRBD said the valuation for all construction in the Pikes Peak region was around $3.4 billion.
