DENVER (KDVR) — A plane flying near Larkspur Sunday morning hit a sign on Interstate 25 and eventually crashed in a field east of the roadway, according to preliminary information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were taken to a local hospital after the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration told FOX31 that the plane, a Tecnam P2006T, crashed around 7:50 a.m. Two people were on board the plane.
According to the sheriff’s office, both of them were taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
Emergency crews had to wade through waist-deep water to get to them. They were out of the plane when deputies got to them.
A small fuel leak was being taken care of, the sheriff’s office said.
Several lanes of northbound I-25 were closed due to the crash. This caused traffic to back up on the northbound lanes of the interstate near the crash and on roads in Larkspur.
The traffic was still backed up for several miles as of noon.
The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation into the crash.
