Police arrest suspect in February homicide

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a suspect in a homicide that happened near the beginning of the year had been apprehended in early December.

According to CSPD, on Feb. 26 at around 6:15 a.m. officers were called to the 3200 block of South Academy Boulevard, just south of Hancock Expressway about an assault in progress. When police arrived they found a man later identified as 55-year-old Omar Olmedo unresponsive.

Olmedo was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and on March 5 he died from his injuries. On Sept. 24 Olmedo’s death was ruled a homicide by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

After months of investigation on Dec. 2, CSPD was able to get enough probable cause to get an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Marquise Hutt for the charge of Murder in the First Degree. On Dec. 5 Hutt was taken into custody.
