DENVER (KDVR) — Investigators recovered a stolen vehicle and part of the 600 lbs of marijuana that was stolen from an evidence facility during a search of a residence in Denver on Thursday, Colorado State Patrol said.
Earlier this week, Colorado State Patrol said the marijuana was stolen from a CSP evidence trailer at a facility in Arapahoe County on April 1. The evidence was scheduled to be destroyed.
In a press release Friday, CSP said that the Denver Police Department had a Chevrolet Silverado in police custody for an unrelated matter when investigators determined it was the same vehicle seen in surveillance video of the burglary from a CSP evidence facility trailer. It’s unclear how the vehicle ended up in police custody.
With a warrant, the Colorado State Patrol and the Denver Police Department searched a residential property in Denver around 6 p.m. Thursday. No suspects were there at the time and no one was arrested, however, evidence was found.
“Troopers recovered approximately 3/4 of the stolen marijuana inside the residence, as well as a shed that was located in the backyard of the property,” CSP said.
CSP also said it recovered a stolen GMC pickup truck that was at the residence and unrelated to the marijuana theft.
The recovered marijuana was put back into evidence in a secure location, CSP said.
The agency said the investigation remains ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact CSP at 303-239-4501.
