(COLORADO SPRINGS) — At the last meeting before the Rockrimmon Library’s lease officially ended, the Pikes Peak Library District’s (PPLD) Board of Trustees voted a second time not to renew the library’s lease, officially closing the door on the fight to save the library.
The meeting was reportedly very tense, with tempers flaring and many passionate speakers making their case why the library’s lease should be renewed for another year. The “Save the Rockrimmon Library” group has been outspoken on its opposition of the closure, holding numerous rallies and peaceful protests at both the library and City Council ahead of the closure of the library on Dec. 1.
After a strong community push for a re-vote, the second vote was held on Dec. 4, where the Board of Trustees ultimately decided on a 5-2 vote not to renew the Rockrimmon Library’s lease. The location will remain permanently closed.
