(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The public is invited to a meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 14 to learn about an upcoming construction project that will add a new waterline, fire hydrants, and an accessible parking lot to Garden of the Gods Park.
The Garden of the Gods Waterline Project, beginning in the fall of 2024, will involve the installation of 8,000 feet of new waterline and nine fire hydrants to enhance fire and park safety. The City of Colorado Springs said the improvements will make emergency response more streamlined by ensuring a readily available water source for firefighters.
Additional improvements will also be made to enhance accessibility with the creation of a fully accessible parking lot and ADA compliant trails into the Central Garden. Approximately 3,200 feet of asphalt will be replaced to provide accessible parking nearer to the Central Gardens. A more sustainable, accessible concrete trail will also replace the current trail to the Central Garden.
At the meeting, officials with Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS), Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) and the Office of Accessibility will be on hand to provide information on the project.
The informative meeting will be held at Coronado High School cafeteria from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Aug. 14.
