Pueblo Airport wins award for runway construction project

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Memorial Airport (PUB) was recently recognized for the timely and skilled completion of a runway construction project that was completed in only 21 days.

According to the City of Pueblo, PUB Airport’s Pueblo Runway 8R-26L project was recognized at the 2025 Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) “Best in Colorado” awards on Wednesday, February 19. Local contractor Pyramid Construction and consultants Dibble Corporation were recognized for their work specific to the paving aspect of the project.

The Pueblo Runway 8R-26L project was a complete mill and overlay of a 10,000′ x 150′ runway and included a taxiway removal and upgrades of all lights and signage. The City said during the CAPA award recognition, judges noted that the project was completed within a tight deadline in order to ensure no disruption occurred with PUB partners like Freeman Jet Center and CAE (formerly Doss Aviation) with their daily flight schedules.

The paving project was completed in 21 days, the City said.

“We were honored to have PUB recognized with this award thanks to the excellent work of Pyramid Construction and our partners at Dibble,” said Director of Aviation Greg Pedroza. “This much needed runway improvement is impactful for our service, and we are happy to see the project recognized at this level.”
