Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office mourns loss of K9 Mondy

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) announced on Saturday, June 1 that K9 Mondy passed away on Monday, May 22.

According to PCSO, Mondy was an 8-year-old English lab, born in England, who found his way to Czechoslovakia where he started his training, moving to Worldwide K9 in San Antonio, Texas. Mondy joined PCSO in July 2019 where he completed several trainings and received several certifications during his four years of service,

In late 2023, Mondy was diagnosed with Spinal cancer which cut his career short.

PCSO said Mondy was a valued asset to the department and even more valued as a partner and friend to Lt. Wolfe. Mondy participated in a number of tracking operations for lost people, finding evidence and suspects, and narcotics.

According to PCSO, Mondy’s most well-known work was in the District 70 School District where he worked searching for narcotics and marijuana vape pens. Mondy also searched for narcotics in the Pueblo County Detention facility as well as several local prisons.

PCSO said Mondy’s favorite activity was riding in the patrol car.

“As we say our goodbyes, let us reflect on the memories that made Mondy an irreplaceable part of our lives,” PSCO said on a post. “Mondy came into our lives as a ball of fur, full of energy and curiosity. From the moment he clumsily pounced into our hearts, he brought an abundance of laughter and love. We will all miss you, Mondy! Thanks for being a great handler Lt. Wolfe and taking such good care of Mondy!!!”
