Pueblo deputies attacked by inmate, one seriously injured

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — One Pueblo County deputy was seriously injured and another suffered minor injuries after an early morning assault by an inmate on Saturday, Aug. 10.

According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), two deputies were working a graveyard shift in the maximum-security floor of the Pueblo County Detention Facility when they were allegedly assaulted by an inmate.

The inmate was identified as 42-year-old James Gilbert, who was being held on charges of Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Felony Menacing.

PCSO said one deputy was taken to the hospital with serious bodily injuries, and the other deputy had minor injuries to his face. The investigation into the assault is ongoing, PCSO said.
