(PUEBLO, Colo.) — On Saturday, May 25, Pueblo Parks and Recreation held a dedication ceremony to rename Starlite Park to Laura’s Park to honor a fallen Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent who had grown up in Pueblo and played in the park as a child.
According to Pueblo leadership, FBI agent Laura Schwartzenberger was killed in the line of duty in Florida while serving a search warrant in 2021. Schwartzenberger grew up on Starlite Drive in Pueblo and played at the park as a young child. The park was recently updated with new playground equipment and new sidewalk pathways.
The dedication included a Presentation of Colors by a joint Honor Guard and several officials spoke to honor the memory of Schwartzenberger. Volunteers from the community served food to guests, and children had the chance to play on the new playground.
