(PUEBLO, Colo.) — On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Southern Colorado Equality Alliance (SCEA) will present its annual Pueblo LGBTQ+ Pride Festival in Mineral Place Park located at 1600 North Santa Fe Avenue, with SCEA anticipating another year with a large crowd of attendees.
The Pride Festival will feature business and nonprofit vendors, food trucks, and entertainment throughout the day. What SCEA calls Pueblo’s most colorful parade will begin around the interior of the park starting at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m. festivities continue with an opening ceremony and the event continues until 4 p.m.
SCEA said this year’s theme is “Community & Unity.” Tommy Farrell, Pride Committee Chair and SCEA Board Member said “As hostility toward LGBTQ+ people, especially people who are transgender, continues to rise, it is just as important as ever for us to be able to come together in this space and feel a true sense of Community & Unity.”
Farrell said as folks hear and see attacks on and misinformation about the LGBTQ+ community, it can be easy to feel isolated. The theme for the festival can mean something different to each person but what unites them is a desire to lead a life free of hate and discrimination.
SCEA is offering a shuttle to the festival thanks to support from the City of Pueblo. Attendees can park off-site at 201 West 8th Street, and catch a ride to Mineral Palace Park. More information can be found on SCEA’s webpage about pride.
