(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo will be temporarily drained for construction starting Monday, July 29.
As part of the HARP 1A Expansion Project and Boathouse construction, the Pueblo Riverwalk will be empty for a little over two weeks. During this period, H.W. Houston will prepare and install a temporary dam to isolate the construction site for the future Riverwalk Boathouse.
The Boathouse will offer visitors a concession area, boat ticketing, and public restrooms. The newest addition to the Riverwalk will also feature an open-air rooftop deck that will be available for rent to the public for events and celebrations of all types.
“While we are excited to advance the growth of the Riverwalk, we are understanding of the inconveniences that come with construction,” said Dani Vigil, Communications and Development Coordinator. “We appreciate the public’s patience during this temporary closure as we work to further enhance the Riverwalk for the community.”
While the channel is drained, the river will also be cleaned. The project’s subcontractor, H.W. Houston will remove all sediment, dead plant matter, and other debris.
Despite the construction and the channel being drained, the Riverwalk will remain open. Visitors can still visit the restaurants and businesses along the channel. The construction area on the east end of the Riverwalk will remain closed, with pedestrian traffic safely rerouted over Veteran’s Bridge.
All pre-scheduled events will also remain uninterrupted.
