(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Zoo announced the recent passing of its watusi cow, Batik, who was brought to the zoo in 2015 as part of the introduction of the new African dog exhibit and other African species.
In a press release sent on Monday, Nov. 25 by Brett Mills, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Pueblo Zoo, Batik’s health began to decline on Oct. 24. Mills said that the Zoo’s animal care and vet staff provided intensive care and treatments the following two days but Batik, unfortunately, did not show any signs of improvement.
“Staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him on October 26th,” Mills said. “Further tests revealed two large inoperable cancerous tumors as the cause of his sudden decline.”
According to Mills, Batik was 10 years old.
